My name is Morgan, and I’m an artist and a writer. Or a writer and an artist. It is always hard to determine which aspect of my life comes first. Either way, I have always enjoyed creating, whether I have a stick of charcoal in my hand or a keyboard at my fingertips. Depending on which of these interests has brought you to my website (but hopefully it’s both), see below for more details!
First, though, more about my general life: I live in a small town in Michigan with my husband, four cats (ages 1, 2, 4, and 8), and two dogs (9 months and 5 years). I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, which is being put to use with my job as a copywriter. I self-published a sci-fi novel last year, titled Sereph. I am terrible at remembering important things, but oddly talented with small details, like recalling the color of a stranger’s eyes. I can hardly walk into an animal shelter without adding another member to our family. I have been a vegetarian for 3 years and I frequently change my handwriting.
Art: First I will say that I am a drawer, not a painter, and it’s not just because I find painting a harrowing experience. There is something unique about working with dry media. My favorite materials to work with probably have to be charcoal (the sticks, not the pencils) for when I’m feeling messy and moody, and graphite (the pencils, not the sticks) for times when I’m feeling more technical and in the mood to challenge myself. I like drawing on great big pieces of paper when I can, preferably while sitting or lying on the floor. (This practice, however, becomes increasingly unreasonable every time a new creature is added to my brigade of pets. The cats just love the chance to lay on paper, tracking tiny charcoal pawprints everywhere, and the dog looks at paper as a new and intriguing chew toy.)
Writing: I have been writing for as long as I can remember. A story I wrote about killer bees in a submarine was published in my school newsletter in 3rd grade. Since then, I haven’t had as much success with publication, due in part to my incessant inability to write short stories and poetry. Everything becomes a novel no matter how hard I try, so my writing portfolio is founded on the unfinished beginnings of several books. My preferred genres (to both read and write) are fantasy and science fiction.
